THE DESIGNER

My vision is simple, to make women feel special. Shortly after I became engaged, I started the process of designing and making my own dress. During this process, I faced challenges that I never realized were missing in the Bridal Industry. Little challenges like finding fabric that matched my skin, finding a silhouette the flattered my shape and height, or even finding a unique fabrication that reflected my personality. It was in overcoming these challenges that I became grateful for being a designer. I had the ability to dye the fabric to match my skin, to drape the pattern to fit my proportions, to cut and sew the embroidery to fit my aesthetic. After overcoming these challenges, I realized that I wanted every bride and woman to feel as special and beautiful as I did on my wedding day.

THE START

Dayra Pires was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. At a young age, Dayra began to wonder about her purpose in life. At the age of 13 during a prayer service at church, she heard the voice of God lead her to pursue a career in Fashion Design. From that moment on, she pursued fashion design full force.

At the age of 18, she was accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology, and moved to New York City to study fashion design. In addition to her education at FIT, Dayra studied fashion through internship experiences at numerous ateliers including Oscar de la Renta, and Isabelle Armstrong. It was in her atelier experience at Oscar De La Renta and working with close family members, that her love and appreciation for hand crafted details began.

After graduating FIT with a Bachelor’s in Fashion Design and specialization in Intimate Apparel, Dayra began her experience in the fashion industry. She would later take her technical training from FIT and her love for hand crafted details, and start her own brand, Dayra Couture, in 2018.
